Our first project as a sophomore was an ok project. It was called Secratery of the future. Our group had to find an unplotted spot of land. We then had to make a new policy by putting in helpful changes to the area. We also had to find out what our site would look like in 50, 100, 300, and 1,000 years with and without the changes we made. Our group's area was in O'hair park, novato. The exact location is in Little mountain. Here is my groups presentation.
Reflection: I think over all our project was very good. Me and my group worked very well together and we all took leader during various parts of the project. We also had pretty good work ethic and got done what we had to do every day. We stayed off the phones and were mostly very on task and productive. I need to do better in attitude and demeanor. There were days where I was very tired and had a bad attitude to get stuff done. I need to be ready every day and bring good vibes to the group. When in a group it is key that everybody is ready to go and on task.
key terms:
Biotic- living organisms that were in our project
Abiotic- non-living organism, were rocks or the ground in our project
Biology- the study of the living world. We studied how our environment would be better
Ecology- study of the interactions between living things and their environments
Individual- a single living organism. Ours had snakes, mountain lions and others
Population- a group of homogeneous individual species that live in the same habitat. Our environment had a pretty similar population because of dryness
Community- populations of different species interacting with each other
Ecosystem- how the communities interact with their environment. Our ecosystem included many species that interacted with each other.
Biome- group of ecosystem that have the same climate and similar dominant communities. Our biome was warm and dry
Biosphere-where all of life exists in the world, earth. Our project will help the world in the long run
Food web- a bunch of mixed up food chains. We had a very similar food chain.
Autotrophs- organisms that produce their own energy. We had trees and bushes
Heterotroph- organisms that rely on others to get energy. we had snakes and mountain lions
Nutrient cycle- movements and exchange of organic and inorganic matter back into the production of living matter
Carbon cycle- series of processes by which carbon compounds are inter-converted in the environment
Nitrogen cycle- series of process by which nitrogen and its compounds are interconverted in the environment and in living organisms
Water cycle- journey that water takes as it circulates from land to sky to land. Will provide environment with water
Weather- day to day condition of the earths atmosphere. ours is warm annd dry.
Climate- the average year after year conditions of temp and precipitation in a particular region. Climate is the same as weather.
Primary succession- succession takes place on surface where no soil exists
Pioneer species- first species to appear in succession
Secondary succession- disturbance changes existing community without removing soil
