This is one of the largest projects we have done. The first part was to design a solar water heater using copper tubes and other items. Ours was a big box with an opening. Inside the box we put in aluminum foil to reflect light and heat. We insulated the box so no heat could get through. At first we had the copper tubes attached to bottles on each side. We at first thought we could rise the bottles to flow back and forth but they leaked so we instead just let water run into one bottle and switch them when the water ran out. In the end, we had the highest heat transfer.
Our next part of this section we made a survey of 110 students and teachers to see what their opinions are on what to put in our outdoor classroom. These included things like wifi or different seating arrangements. Here is a link to them.
Our groups next step was to pick our site. We decided to pick our spot on top of the 4 huge storage containers behind the art building.
It has a great view on top and it has many features that will make it comfortable.
We next did a materials heating lab where we saw which materials dried the fastest. Here is the spread sheet of materials.
Here is our final product.
Our last lab is our wind turbine lab. Our goal was to design a wind turbine that we can find VAWT and HAWT. We then record data on small, medium and fast speeds. We then had to make a claim about which design was the best and why.
Concepts.
Atoms. Atoms are the building blocks of matter.
Neutrons-Neutral charge in nucleus
Protons-Positive charge in nucleus
Electrons-Negative charge outside nucleus
To find the atomic number you have to find the number of protons.
The atomic mass is the number of protons and neutrons combined.
Angles of the Sun
The Earth is tilted at 23.5 degrees and it rotates which is how days and nights differ, as do seasons too.

This whole entire project was a fun one. We did a lot of labs like the wind turbine lab. It was fun to try and design a turbine that could go very fast. I liked our final design for the outdoor classroom. Ours was unique and it was something no one else thought about. Even though it probably wont get picked because of safety hazards but we could have opened the eyes of judges who liked creativity. Two things I did good on were my empathy and my work ethic. Two things my whole group needed to work on were collaboration and communication. There were times when I didn't know what to do because our group wasn't talking to each other.
