Hi and welcome to my English 9 page. My teacher this year is Mrs. Munoz Matheney. We will be reading many books and doing projects with them. We will be reading, To Kill a Mockingbird, Lord of the Flies, Romeo and Juliet.
In this year, we read books that we pick from a list. My first book I read was Looking for Alaska. It is a book about a teen who leaves his house in search of a new life.
The next book I have read is Ender's Game. It is about a boy who is picked to join the army to fight the buggers (bad guys) and went through a rigorous training to become one of the smartest tacticians of the army.
The whole class read The Absolutely True Diary of a Part Time Indian. It is about a Native American boy who is very poor and had a birth defection. It is about how he lives his life, struggling for happiness.
We had a huge poetry unit where we wrote five poems and turned them in. We also had a poetry slam where we gotup in front of class and read our poem.
Here are my poems

We have read three books this year where we pick a selection of books that are in different groups and themes. The three groups were coming of age, alienation and belonging, and love, hate, and separation. Here are the reviews of the books I have read.
Coming of age: Enders Game.
Enders Game is a book about a young boy named Ender. At age six he is taken to learn at a military school in space. There Ender learns how to fight and learn tactics to someday fight the buggers, and alien race invading Earth. Its up to Ender to stop them. The big idea is well explained because it shows a young boy growing up and possibly save the world. I would recommend this book to young children that dream about doing anything.
Alienation and belonging: looking for Alaska.
Looking for Alaska is a book about a kid named Miles who leaves his home in Florida for a boarding school far away. He meets new people, who introduce new things like smoking and drinking. One of his friends, Alaska, mysteriously runs away and crashes in her car and dies. It is up to Miles and his friends to find out why she ran. The author expresses the big idea well. He shows that a kid leaves his home for a new one. I would not recommend this book to children because there is smoking and drinking involved.
Love, hate, and separation: Atonement.
Atonement is a book takes place in a town in Europe during WWII. Briony, a girl who lives in a house in this town walks in to her sister and the gardener boy. She takes the occurrence the wrong way and has the gardener arrested for abuse. The gardener is sent to prison then gets out to go to the army. The book is about the gardeners life in the war. This book is a good book. The author expresses the big idea really well. The gardener and the sister love each other then get separated and get angry at Briony. I would recommend this book to anyone because it tells an interesting story.
